StDev( _____ )

Enter whatever cells you need into the function, or you can type the first part: StDev(

and then highlight the cells you need. Use ctrl+click to highlight more than one region if necessary. Don't forget that you must enter it in ';formula'; mode (meaning the cell must start with the = sign).How can i find the standard deviation of a set of numbers using excel?
Hi,

1.enter the data for which you want in the any one of the MS excel column.

2.then type ';=STDEV(range of the data entered)'; in the cell below the last cell in the column.

please note that you have to type ';='; sign (without the ';'; marks just used ';'; to highlight) to type a formula. Also the range means the (firstcell:lastcell) , do not forget to use th ';:'; sign in between the first and last cell. In this way excel operates on all cells from first to last cell.

for example your set of numbers is 1,2,3,4,5,6.

then

1. I am chosing column ';A';

=%26gt; Type in cells

A1 =%26gt; 1

A2 =%26gt; 2

A3 =%26gt; 3

A4 =%26gt; 4

A5 =%26gt; 5

A6 =%26gt; 6

2. in the cell A7 type the following:

=STDEV(A1:A6) and then press enter

A7 will give the standard deviation. In this case answer is 1.870828693

Hope this helps.

Bye.
Cheeser's suggestion above is correct. Just make sure to press the equality sign ';='; before stdev:

=stdev(highlight data set) then press the 'enter' key.
