in general yes, unless if some how your rental is under rent control in LA, and it is prohibited under LA rent control law
they can ask for anything they want they don't always get what they ask for.You might not get the apartment if you don't comply.they probably want to run a credit check on you to make shure your not a dead beat.
It is legal. They have a right to do a credit check to make sure you are not a flake, and to give them additional information so that if you must be evicted, or you cause damage to the property, they can come back at you for financial damages.





You also have the right not to give them the information.





However, if you do not give them the information, then they have the further right not to consider your application.
Yes they can, especially if they are a section 42 (tax credit) property. The only reason they are asking for it is because if you get interest on your checking account, they have to count that as income.
That's illegal anywhere.
