What is the opposite AND reciprocal of the following numbers?

1. 3

2. -2

3. -1/6

4. 3/5

5. -2.4

6. -0.25What is the opposite AND reciprocal of the following numbers?
reciprocal of x is 1/x

so ans are

1. 1/3

2. -1/2

3. -6

4. 5/3

5. -1/2.4

6. -4

Opposite of x should be -x

so ans are:

1. -3

2. 2

3. 1/6

4. -3/5

5. 2.4

6. 0.25

What is the opposite AND reciprocal of the following numbers?
I would say the opposite of a number would be the same magnitude, but a different sign.

When looking at reciprocals, I would convert each number into a fraction first, and then flip it over. Whole numbers expressed in fractions, are just the number over 1.

Always put the answer in simplest form.

So,

1) 3 = 3/1

Opposite = -3

Recip. = 1/3 (One third)

2) -2 = -2/1

Opposite = 2

Recip. = -1/2 (minus a half)

3) -1/6

Opposite = 1/6 (One sixth)

Recip = -6/1 or -6 (minus six)

4) 3/5

Opposite = -3/5 (minus three fifths)

Recip. = 5/3 or 1 2/3 (One and Two Thirds)

5) -2.4 = -24/10

Opposite = 2.4

Recip. = -10/24 = -5/12 (minus five twelfths)

6) -.25 = -1/4

Opposite = 0.25

Recip. = -4/1 or -4 (minus four)

Really?

1) -1/3

2) 1/2

6) 4

You can do the rest yourself. This isn't that hard. We're just doing your homework for you. You need to use this later, so you're best learning it for yourself.
opposite = negative

reciprocal = flip over

1. 3 ---%26gt; -1/3

2. -2---%26gt; 1/2

3. -1/6--%26gt; 6

4. 3/5---%26gt; -5/3

5. -2.4 = -2 and 4/10 = -2 and 2/5 = -12/5 ------%26gt; 5/12

6. -0.25 = -1/4 -----%26gt; 4
1. -1/3

2. 1/2

3. 6

4. -5/3 or -1 2/3

5. 5/12

6. 4
